Indian women’s cricket team captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, has surpassed Meg Lanning to become the second-highest run-scorer in Women’s T20 Internationals (T20Is). Harmanpreet achieved this milestone by scoring 66 runs against the UAE earlier in the tournament, bringing her total to 3415 T20I runs, thereby exceeding Lanning’s 3405 runs.
Opener Smriti Mandhana of India is also on the verge of achieving a significant milestone. With 3378 T20I runs, Mandhana has the chance to surpass the former Australian captain’s record and become the third highest run-scorer in Women’s T20I history with a strong performance against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup semi-finals.
New Zealand’s Suzie Bates remains the top run-scorer in women’s T20I cricket with 4348 runs. Bates recently added a team-best 117 runs during a five-match T20I series against England. However, with Harmanpreet and Mandhana both in excellent form, they could potentially close in on Bates’ record with strong performances in the ongoing Asia Cup.
The Indian women’s cricket team will face Bangladesh in the first semi-final of the competition on Friday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The second semi-final, featuring Sri Lanka Women and Pakistan Women, will also take place at the same venue later in the evening.
